Excerpt from the book:
Darrin heard Vivian waking up and walking around inside the cottage. Within five minutes she turned on the backyard light and came out to sit with him with her wineglass of blood.
"I saw you dusted," Vivian smiled.
"It's not like you're going to do it," Darrin said.
"I was too busy taking care of my injured husband in the hospital."
Darrin shook his head. "Even if you weren't taking care of me, you still wouldn't have dusted."
Vivian laughed and asked, "To what do I owe you the pleasure of visiting my humble cottage?"
"Two things. First, it is our anniversary."
"Which one?"
"The first time we met. Well, the anniversary date was when I was in the hospital. So I'd like to ask you what you would like me to do to make up for it. You don't go to a fancy restaurant so I'm at a loss."
"Hmm, I don't really celebrate anniversaries. You know, that's a modern thing for common folks. Back then only royalties kept records and they did birthdays and so on. And in this relatively modern time, hmm," Vivian thought about it, "This is actually the first one I would call a relationship, and to my surprise it lasts this long. So I don't know."
"How about I stay here tonight?"
"Of course. Wait a minute. Are you sleeping with me or are you cleaning the place?" Vivian squinted at him.
Darrin gave her a stink eye.
Vivian laughed, "You can do both!"
