To commemorate the centenary of World War I, Kapiti Coast District Libraries' second annual poetry contest If You're a Poet We Want to Know It welcomed poets of all ages to submit poems with the theme of "War & Peace". Poets were invited to freely interpret this theme i.e., the poem could refer to a time, a place, a person, a feeling, the concept of war and peace, the First World War itself, or be inspired by poets of the First World War era.
Included in this anthology is every submission the library received, a total of 85 poems, in each of three age groups:
Children age 6-12
Teens age 13-18
Adults age 19 and older
Well into the 21st century now, library staff decided that 2014 would be a good year to launch the poetry contest anthology as an eBook rather than limiting access to a few print volumes in each of the library branches. Our thanks to our Digital Services Team here at Kapiti Coast District Libraries, in particular Diana Holmes who "translated" the print into electronic form.
We hope you enjoy reading your own poems here as well as those of your fellow Kapiti area writers.
