This is a book that presents some opinions written in English about Soviet literature. That is, the literature that appeared in Russia since the outbreak of the Communist Revolution in 1917. This does not mean talking about the literature that appeared in all parts of the Soviet Union. Because each region of the Soviet Union has its own literature, and these regional literatures differ in their language and were not written in the Russian language, and the book deals with the literatures that appeared in Soviet Russia and were written in the Russian language. There is a fact that we cannot ignore, that the Russian Revolution renewed all aspects of Russian life, whether social, political, or economic. This revolution also had an impact on culture and literature. Therefore, the history of Soviet literature is the history of the attempts made by the communist government to create a type of literature consistent with Its objectives and programs, and hence these attempts differed according to the objectives and programs of the communists. Sometimes we see the communists taking complete control over literary affairs and imposing on literature a severe censorship that is hardly known to the nations most deeply in dictatorship, and at other times we see them forced to abolish this censorship and leave literature some of its freedom.
