Carol, a 19-year-old girl, who is very sweet and kind, lives with her grandmother and uncle, who was a member of the local gang, but ended up getting killed in a raid. Since then, Carol has been making ends meet by working as a waitress in a diner in the neighborhood at night and cleaning apartments in the city during the day. She's left feeling lost when she discovers her grandmother has an incurable disease, the treatment of which is unimaginably expensive and which she can't afford to pay for.

Gael, a 30-year-old man, formerly a boy, has now matured into a man with a heart that's closed-off to love. To him, women are just for pleasure, then throwaways. As the ruler of the Paraisópolis slum, he's a man feared and respected by everyone. Money is not a problem for him and women are constantly chasing after him.

When Gael first sees Carol working in the diner, he becomes taken with her. Even though he tries to pursue her, she pays him no mind and this drives him mad. He goes as far as to forbid everyone from approaching Carol. Later on, Gael gets imprisoned, but he's still keeping an eye on Carol's life from behind bars. When he learns about her grandmother's disease, he comes up with an idea to make a proposal to her.

Will Carol accept the proposal emanating from a drug trafficker, even if it goes against her principles?
