When I looked at Rosalia's face she was pale as a ghost. Her smile was gone and for a brief moment I thought her eyes looked "dead." This haunting image would stay with me for years. Eventually I came to understand why I had the haunting image of Rosalia. I had allowed my own unknown prejudice to show through and it targeted her. I condoned the prejudice message that said it was okay to treat Rosalia unworthy simply because she was different from me. Rosalia was cut deep with the knife of prejudice and the scar would be eternal. Our youth today have an array of social issues they are trying to cope with and to comprehend. As an example: they may struggle with friendship, bullying, prejudice, or drugs. Our youth are often confused, searching for answers, and in need of guidance. Parent, families, school staff, the juvenile system, church and civic youth groups, and the medical profession are all educators who impact the social development of today's youth. Intertwining Choices is a curriculum designed to aide these educators as they guide our youth through formative years today and to socially empower them as they traverse into the realm of adulthood tomorrow.
