The book is to intorduce children to four of Scottish poet Robert Burns's most famous poems. They include, To a Mouse, To a Louse, and two others. Each poem is laid out in three steps to assist the children. Firstly there is a story that was inspired by the poem, then at the back of the book is an interpretation of the poem and finally Robert Burns poem. The four stories are,

Poem,To a Louse -- Story Bug Off -- William nudges his brother and points to an ugly black bug on a ladies hat, then the fun begins.

Poem, To a Mouse -- The Farmer and the Field Mouse -- This mouse's troubles don't end after the farmer knocks over the straw nest.

Poem, Death and dying words of poor Mailie --The day my pet died -- Criag is upset when his friend Hugh tells him his pet sheep died.

Poem, The Favourite Old Horse -- Wendy finds out why her father thake such good care of their old horse

Scottish Gorvernment department of Culture and Historic Environment favourably reviewed the book.

Autorenporträt

I was born in Perth Scotland and schooled in Glasgow. At the age of 23 I emigrated to Canada, where I have spent my adult life raising a family and working. But absence does make the heart grow fonder. I am a member of the Vancouver Burns Club. Throughout the years I have organized Burns suppers for tihe Rotary Club, attended Burns suppers at the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada and enjoyed Burns suppers at friends homes. Perhaps Burns is in my genes as my grandfather was the president of the Glasgow Bridgeton Burns Club 1934/35. Durning many trips to Scotland I have visited the Burns Cottage and the spectacular new Burns Birthplace Museum at Alloway.
