They have never met, but they have a destiny together. Alex is comfortable, a successful contract researcher. She lives in a safe house with her husband Sam. Jacob is at the bottom of the social strata, living in dicey, dangerous government housing, eating free but stale government biscuits, struggling in school. They both wake one morning to a horrible discovery. Alex's husband and dog are dead, Jacob's parents and teachers are dead. A mystery substance exploded over the earth, killing everything with a heartbeat. Both Alex and Jacob had a unique cancer vaccination and strangely survived the lethal substance. Few people did. Alex's mother is on the west coast and also had the shot. She should have survived but Alex can't reach her. She can't reach anyone. All communications are down. She's lost everyone and has to find her mother, dead or alive. Her only transportation choice was her solar motorcycle. She has to ride 2,800 miles across the country to find a way to cross the wide ocean strait to get to the island. She's terrified of the ocean and she'll be a mark. She has survival food, most don't. Starving people kill for food. She needs to be invisible while she rides and camps. Her research for good camouflage for the trip takes her into a vast underground world, a large American military manufacturing unit. She just wanted to travel safely. They need her blood to replicate the vaccine and her help eliminating a threat to their future survival. Invisibility has a price. They want her to eliminate the threat, become an assassin. Her quiet safe life is over.

Jacob has nowhere to go. He's terrified and alone. He finds solace in a surprising corner of his past. He sees too much and becomes a target. He has to grow up fast and find a way out of this.

Both Alex and Jacob begin to start over in this new, treacherous world. Many life and death decisions await them both. They are never the same again and each of them has a killer on their tail they may have to kill. No rest for the innocent.

Autorenporträt

"It came from the deep." People ask me where the Invisible Rider story came from, how did I think of it. There was a germ of an idea way back when, but the book took on a life of its own, as germs and stories do. The characters woke me up at night wanting attention. I've had a wide variety of interesting jobs in my life, all memorable, enjoyable or at least educational. Now I write. I'll revisit Alex and Francis and Jacob and Junie and all the other Invisible Rider characters in an upcoming sequel. In the interim, my next book "Go Away" is making its way along my keyboard.
