In this first book, Isilian responds to a call for a hunter to protect villagers who are being preyed on by werewolves. At first it seems like any other contract, but when he fulfills the request he discovers that he has become the unwitting instrument in the unscrupulous plans of the town mayor, who in turn is being manipulated by beings further up the food chain. Despite the gathering cloud of dark forces that seem to be plaguing the Hunter, he finds allies in the town and within the Church, who appreciate not only his strength, but also his character and dedication to truth and justice.
