A novel in two volumes Translated by K.A. Soshinskaya Presented to the reader of English romance writer Barbara Hofland (1770-1844) happened to see a second-hand book shop in the English city of Nottingham violinist, who was born and lived most of his life in Moscow. He was struck by not only the year of the publication of two small little volumes - 1813! - But their name "Ivanovna, or Maid of Moscow." The shopkeeper supposed to put these rarities at Sotheby's, but after visiting a concert violinist, has agreed to sell it to him. A musician, reading a novel about the events in Moscow during Napoleon's invasion, was shocked to its content and presented books to its long-standing friend of KA Soshinskaya in the hope that she fell in love with it and translate it. It happened. The novel "Ivanovna, or Maid of Moscow" - a novel in letters, and, moreover, extremely topical, its action takes place mainly at a seized in 1812 by French troops and burned Moscow. The events of that time are well known to readers of the domestic literature. But the correspondence sisters Dolgoruky, a love letter to the Russian aristocrat Ivanovna English baronet Edward Ingleby and his servants largely supplement our knowledge of the time and give them a new emotional - the theme of "Love and War" is always relevant.
