Inventive thought in the Soviet Union developed in a peculiar way. It was encouraged in select areas - space, military, scientific - and practically ignored in everyday life. In other words, we were making major breakthroughs in rocket science and basic research, but we were seriously lagging behind in everything related to everyday life, from vacuum cleaners to cars. This book has two purposes. The first is to tell about the inventions made by our compatriots during the Soviet period, as objectively as possible, without downplaying or exaggerating their merits; the second is to show invention in the USSR in a context that explains its special path. And yes, of course - to dispel the numerous myths associated with the history of invention.
