Between 1642 and 1645 the Civil War raged throughout England as the Parliamentarians strove to impose their will upon the Royalist forces of King Charles I. Chipping Campden could not avoid being drawn into the conflict, especially as its proximity to the Fosse Way enabled whichever army held it to disrupt communications between the key centres of Oxford, Gloucester, Warwick and Worcester. This short, fictional story is based on the history of Campden during the first half of the 17th century. It deals with the impact of the war on a young boy, Jack Wagstaff, and describes events in Campden through his eyes.
