Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Kulturwissenschaften - Europa, Note: 1,7, Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) (Kulturgeschichte ), Veranstaltung: Hexen - ein europäischer Mythos?, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In this work I analyze if Joan of Arc was sentenced as a witch or because of political reasons. Therefore I would like to begin my examination with the history of France in the 14th and 15th century. Then I am describing the circumstances of the ascents and descents of her life. This is important to gain necessary background information about the time she lived in and the thinking of the people she was surrounded with. In the introduction of her judges I am showing their argumentations in this court case which are mainly political and / or personal. In the main part constituents of the process are presented which deliver the arguments that Joan of Arc was condemned as a witch and heretic. These constituents include for example pagan beliefs in the town of her childhood or that Joan wore man dresses. In the end I am telling about the death of Joan and the rehabilitation proceeding 20 years after to underline the connection with political and religious motifs.
