Jigger for Bride is a collection of fairytale stories meant for both education and recreation. The stories are conveyed in a witty and humorous way to enhance critical and moral thinking as well as entertainment for the reader. Packed with a flavor of culture and tradition mainly associated with the communities in the Western region of Kenya, the stories are a depiction of the people and their environment. The leading story from which the book draws its title is about a man named Andere. Andere had a jigger on his toe and a well-wishing neighbor came to help him get it out. Upon removal of the jigger, Andere faked sadness to manipulate his neighbor into finding him a bride. He claimed that the jigger was his only source of wealth from which he hoped to pay for the bride price. Under coercion, the neighbor embarked on her quest to exchange the jigger for a bride for Andere. Another story in the book narrates about Gullible Siru; a woman who harbored a hyena only to be feasted upon by the same hyena once the hunters had left. There is also a saucy fable about a herdsman who was rescued by a bull he loved. These interesting reads are suitable for all ages and perfect for evening family entertainment.
