On 22nd June 1948 the Steamship Empire Windrush landed at Tilbiry Docks and discharged its passengers among them 492 workers from the Caribbean emigrating to Britain to help rebuild a country whose economy was shattered by wartime privation and the deaths of so many of it's able-bodied men between 1939 and 1945. These migrants went on to perform essential services in the NHS, on the railways and buses and in factories but they weren't universally welcomed and these are the stories of some of the Windrush arrivals who ended up living in Birmingham. Published for the Blackstory Partnership CIC on 22nd June 2023 in honour of the 75th anniversary of the fisrt Windrush landing.
