Autorenporträt

Joe McHugh is a storyteller and a fiddler. He is also a writer, public speaker, and radio journalist/producer. His fiction and non-fiction books cover a wide range of subjects from the energy industry and our troubled relationship with time to how the mediums of storytelling shape how we think and act. He has compiled two collections of American humor and folktales and written a memoir about his family's very special relationship with an African-American woman and an illustrated children's book about lighthouses and the early days of aviation. As a young man in 1970, Joe traveled to the mountains of West Virginia where he purchased an eighty-acre farm and set about raising organic vegetables and draft horses. Soon afterwards, he got into a dispute with the local power company and lived for the next four years without electricity. Ever since he has been fascinated with the conflict between the benefits of technology and the needs of the human soul. Kilowatt is his first novel.
