Therefore, the European Union developed a marked based emission trading system in 2002. The system’s frame, de jure and politically, is in the focus of the first chapter. Furthermore, the trading system’s development in Europe and in collaboration with the Kyoto protocol will be described. Thereupon, the system’s advantages and disadvantages are discussed and alternative systems are highlighted. At the very end, there is space for several problems facing the future as well as for a short resumption.
