This book offers an in-depth analysis of the pretérito perfecto compuesto, one of the Spanish verb forms displaying the greatest variation in use. The study discusses its temporal, aspectual and modal dimensions and argues that the perfect tense used in the Romance languages can be understood as a temporal category expressing both simultaneity and anteriority. Finally, the author analyzes the different dialectal forms used in today's Spanish.
