Derived from a peer-review process that followed presentations offered at two GMBA workshops, Land Use Change and Mountain Biodiversity contains information from all major mountain regions, with a particular focus on the Andes and on African mountains. With contributions from more than 50 researchers, the book begins with an overview chapter on high elevation land use, biodiversity, and ecosystem functioning. Highlighting the effects of fire and grazing, it provides a synthesis of human impacts on highland biodiversity. The book then reviews anthropogenic disturbances of biodiversity and analyzes forest structure and tree regeneration in subalpine wood pastures.
