Every word that reaches us from the writings of Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi, the Sufi philosopher and brilliant writer, is a gift and a gift. While history has known him for his abundance of writing, Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi surrendered at one point and burned many of his books because the moment of despair told him of the uselessness of these books. He wanted to entrust his books to a reader who did not know their value, and he succeeded, but we, the readers, were lucky in some of the writings that reached us, including these letters. Among the titles of Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi: the philosopher of writers, the writer of philosophers, the researcher of speech and the speaker of investigators, the sheikh of Sufism, and the imam of rhetoricians, but he was also among the controversialists in Arab-Islamic history in terms of his intellectual convictions. Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi lived a thousand years ago in the fourth century AH. We do not know the exact date of his birth or the length of his life, which increases the mystery around him. It was said that he was over ninety or perhaps a hundred years old. We know that he lived through a period of weakness and collapse of the Abbasid state that coincided with an intellectual awakening and a literary renaissance, and Al-Tawhidi was one of the signs of this renaissance.
