College students, graduate and professional students, faculty, staff, and alumni went on our adventure trips. Trip coordinators volunteered, and most trips cost money to cover the expenses, so we just tried to break even. When reading this book, you can feel like you are on a trip! I was hired for my dream job on August 1, 1989, to create an Outdoor Recreation Program for Vanderbilt University. Over the course of thirty-plus years, thousands of students, graduate students, faculty, staff, and alumni participated in the adventure trips, rented outdoor gear, climbed the rock wall, learned to roll a kayak in the pool, or served on the Outdoor Recreation Staff. Many of these fostered strong friendships that continue to this day.
