Artist Edmund Joseph Sullivan (18691933) merged the British tradition of illustration from the 1860s with aspects of Art Nouveau. He contributed to English periodicals such as the Pall Mall Magazine and illustrated many books, including The Compleat Angler, Tom Brown's Schooldays, and Sartor Resartus.
