Domestic violence isn't always what you see in movies or on TV. It's not just about one parent hitting the other. It can be much more subtle and harder to spot. For example, if one parent is always yelling, calling the other names, or putting them down, that's emotional abuse. Sometimes, it's one parent controlling everythingmoney, decisions, or even who the other parent can talk to. This type of control can make someone feel powerless. There's also psychological abuse, where one parent may constantly make the other feel scared or anxious, even without using physical violence. If one parent is always making the other feel small, scared, or worthless, that's domestic violence too.
Even though it's happening between your parents, it still affects you. It can be hard to recognize at first because you might think, "They're not hurting me, so it's not that bad." But just seeing or hearing the violence can make a big impact on how you feel.
