There was a legend about the sugar cane fields. Everybody knew not to go in there after dark, especially under the light of the harvest moon. Andrew's Uncle Joe disappeared in there. The only trace ever found of him was his partially smoked cigar.

One October night, Andrew decided to find out what happened to Uncle Joe. He took his younger sister with him and went looking for his missing uncle.

This story was originally published under the title "The Halloween Story". The Courier newspaper supplied the opening lines of a Halloween story and contestants had to continue it. My story won first place.

Jon Paul Olivier lives in south Louisiana with his wife and two children. He was blessed with opportunities to travel starting at a very young age. He has watched others struggling to fit in as well as been that person trying to fit in. Along the way, he has looked for the little details, the things in the background, that make stories real. In time, encouraged to write down the stories he told, he started writing tales inspired by his travels and by the people he met along the way. He is grateful that his family puts up with the hours he spends writing. Away from work and writing, he is an avid runner and enjoys mountain climbing.
