The Viet Cong force march MacLaine into Cambodia against his will. There his captors mistreat him until a kind Cambodian woman intervenes. She takes pity on him and makes his POW life more bearable. Then a former American POW, who joined the Viet Cong, offers MacLaine an opportunity to do the same. Presented with this dilemma, MacLaine must decide about his future. His decision causes the death of a Viet Cong officer, and this puts MacLaine into even greater jeopardy. Elizabeth is successful in the courtroom but not in her personal life. Her family is shattered by a senseless murder at the MacLaine farm. She wants to run for Congress, but is thwarted by arsonists and the Tecumseh County good old boys. Despite major setbacks, she perseveres and never wavers in her quest for her brother's freedom.
