He was the first artist to serve as A&R chief for a major label, producing such acts as Reno & Smiley, Bonnie Guitar, Cowboy Copas and Jimmy C. Newman. A busy career cost him on the home front, but he's been devoted dad to six children of three failed marriages. Still recording at 90, his honors include induction into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and Bluegrass Hall of Honor. As his signature songs notes, "Tis Sweet To Be Remembered."
