Produktbeschreibung
Mardi Gras in New Orleans is long parades and grand balls. But in the country, Mardi Gras is entirely different. For the first time, young Marianne and Claude will get to see le courir du Mardi Gras, or "The Run," as they stay at their grandmother's farm. They wait in anticipation on Maw-Maw's porch for the time when the masked horsemen will ride through the countryside, bringing excitement and mystery with their traditional wild antics.

In Mardi Gras in the Country, children are introduced to the Mardi Gras practiced in the bayous, farmlands, and rural areas of Cajun Country. After a long day filled with the new sights and sounds of a different part of Louisiana tradition, we find our young heroes dozing and dreaming of future Mardi Gras.

Autorenporträt
Mary Alice Fontenot is one of the South's leading children's authors. Her twelve Clovis Crawfish books have been the beloved reading of almost two generations. As in all her children's books, Mardi Gras In The Country contains many Cajun French phrases, as well as examples of its traditions. It's a delightful book that introduces children to the language and heritage of Acadiana in a highly readable and enjoyable way. The work of Patrick Soper, a member of the Society of Illustrators, has appeared in national publications such as Outdoor Life, Organic Gardening, and West Coast Book Review. Mr. Soper is also the illustrator of A Mardi Gras Dictionary and A Christmas Dictionary, both by Beverly Vidrine, and of The Night Thief, Les Trois Cochons, and Cajun Folktales, all published by Pelican.
