George Warwick Deeping, an English novelist and short story writer, was best known for his work Sorrell and Son (1925). Warwick Deeping was born in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, to a family of physicians and attended Merchant Taylors' School. He went to Trinity College, Cambridge, to study medicine and science, then to Middlesex Hospital to complete his medical education. During World War I, he served in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Deeping later left his position as a physician to become a full-time writer. He married Phyllis Maude Merrill and spent the rest of his life at "Eastlands" on Brooklands Road, Weybridge, Surrey. He was a best-selling author in the 1920s and 1930s, with seven of his novels reaching the bestseller list. Deeping was a prolific short story writer whose work published in British journals such as Cassell's, The Storyteller, and The Strand. He also wrote fiction for various US periodicals, including The Saturday Evening Post and Adventure. All of the short stories and serialized novels in American publications were reprints of works originally published in Britain. More than 200 of his original short tales and essays, which appeared in various British fiction journals, were never published in book form during his lifetime.
