A young widow, Carolyn Potter, wants only to find a safe haven in which to raise her son, Jason, not to find a night stalker lurking in the forest surrounding their new mountain home. Following the unsolved murder of her husband and a violent attack on her son, she learns she has inherited a cattle ranch located in a remote valley high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. She eagerly leaps at the opportunity to escape urban violence, move out of her oppressive mother's home, and get away from her hungry eyed, lip licking employer, Tom Kirby. After arriving in this Shangri La like community, she finds that young calves are being horribly slaughtered on her property through a long running ritual to placate a wild, predatory beast. Cariolyn and Jason decide to interrupt this ritual and protect these young bull calves, thus unleashing deadly attacks on human members of the community. Buried under gambling debts, Tom Kirby needs to win Carolyn's affection in order to marry her and control her newfound wealth. He convinces her that he can kill this predator and thus save her from suffering under this valley's bloody ritual. Will she decide to block the ritual, move back to the city, or will she decide to allow the ritual to keep the beast at bay?
