The Metaphysical Meditations are among the masterpieces of philosophical literature ever, and they are undoubtedly the most important parts of Cartesian philosophy and the most worthy of consideration. A look at the issues it addressed and the facts it demonstrated convinces us that it is the most complete of what the philosopher wrote about metaphysics in general, and the most creative of what he wrote about the human soul and the existence of God in particular, as indicated by the full text of the book's title, "Reflections on First Philosophy: In It He Proves the Existence of God and the Immortality of the Soul." In explaining metaphysical issues, Descartes adhered to a path that few people have followed, and he departed a great distance from the familiar path. Descartes wrote this book to present his metaphysical doctrine in an organized scientific presentation. It is noted that the philosopher used to refer anyone who wanted to understand his total theories in metaphysics to this book alone, without all his other books.
