Trent's content in his life as a diesel mechanic on a cargo ship. The life can be dull while out to sea but it was often book ended by adventures on shore that made it all worth it. This voyage, though, turns out to be anything but quiet.

He awakens on a small island, stranded from the sinking ship and unsure of where they last where. All he knows is that it's somewhere alone in the south Pacific with little survival skills and only a multi-tool at his disposal. Using what he can remember from various survival shows he fashions a makeshift shelter and a small fish trap in the lagoon that miraculously is always holding a fish after the tide goes out.

For several days he settles into a routine, till one night he finally hears the sounds of laughter coming from the lagoon. Sneaking out he sees a sight that for all his life he'd dismissed as fantasy, a pair of mermaids in the lagoon. The encounter with them will change both his and their lives forever.

Autorenporträt

JC Winchester grew up reading just about anything he could get his hands on, from cereal boxes to the Hardy Boys. He loves most forms of fiction, particularly fantasy and military sci-fi, with some of his favorite authors including John Ringo, Robert Jordan, and Tom Clancy.

After several years in the Navy he enrolled in a community college and eventually to a university in the mountains. There he settled down, savoring a life not filled with the noises of the city but instead the sounds of bellowing cattle.

When not writing he can usually be found taking care of the horses on his place, riding, hiking, fishing, or the never ending task of splitting firewood.
