Bandits and beast stall their hurried sprint across the driest steppes Vidarr has ever seen. Injuries force him to develop his nascent magical powers: healing, emotion sensing, and mind travel. Reaching his kin in time drives Vidarr forth. But what he finds at the d'oglemann village forces him to pursue a desperate plan.
