My siblings and I grew up with our mother reading to us: Chapter books, poems, articles, descriptions in personal catalogues, cookies and cake recipes. We were always reading, but what I didn't realize was how much she wrote. Certainly, I was aware of the writing she did relative to her job as an educator poring over lesson plans and creating activities for the upcoming week for her class. Yet, I was not surprised when I realized my mother's creative talents. She always seemed to have characters, plots and stanzas dancing in her head. Daily her speech was filled with metaphors, similes and illusions. It was always fun to listen to her. Through the years she has penned poems on various topics that have been enjoyed by various audiences. "Miriam Elizabeth's Christmas Surprise" is the third in a series of children's books highlighting her grandchildren. I am sure my mother will write many more books.
