On the West Coast, the monster manifests as a wildfire breathing dragon. Three years ago, the dragon cremated two nearby towns in the course of one day, leaving behind the scattered ashes of a thousand homes, memorialized by tombstones of free-standing brick chimneys, and infested with the burned-out husks of vehicles that collaborated with the monster for decades. Wendy works with a nonprofit that is still trying to get the victims back into real homes. It's slow going. One day of destruction, years of healing. Meanwhile, the dragon in the woods is still growing.......
