This novel shows us the exploited lives of working class in Tsarist Russia and the whole miserable life of old bench worker Miakhail Vlasov. Young Bovill would have done same things as his father, but he is living in a age of labor movements. With the help of revolutionary intellectuals, he devotes himself to the workers' liberation. He and some workers form a team to learn Marxism. They study revolutionary theory hardly and know that the exploitation from capitalism is the origin of workers' pain. So they distribute leaflets in factories and do propaganda work to workers. Bovill is respected and supported by his teammates and the masses of workers, because of his strong will and sober mind.
