Most teachers, in my educated opinion, are unsung heroes. They are, for the most part, guardians of a sacred trust, aspiring to educate our children-beyond basic skills needed to pass tests-with knowledge essentials for productive performance in an ever changing world. Yet they are among the lowest-paid and least-respected professionals in our society. After reading some recent "bad teacher" headlines, I was persuaded to share my story, that of an outsider's inside view of life in today's schools from the vantage point of the beleaguered teacher.
