Autorenporträt
John Henry Jowett (1864–1923) was a renowned British nonconformist preacher and author, celebrated for his eloquent sermons and devotional writings. Born in Halifax, England, Jowett received his education from Airedale College, Bradford, and later pursued further studies at Edinburgh University. He was called to minister at Carr's Lane Chapel in Birmingham in 1896, where his oratory drew large congregations and established his reputation as a preacher of great conviction and depth. Jowett's literary contributions extend to several devotional works, one of which is 'My Daily Meditation for the Circling Year,' a testament to his reflective and insightful approach to scripture and spirituality. In this book, he offers a series of daily meditations, aiming to provide spiritual sustenance and a framework for contemplation throughout the year. Known for his meticulous craftsmanship in writing, Jowett combined theological erudition with practical application, making his works accessible and resonant with a wide readership. His sermons and books continue to be read for their profound spiritual insights and their articulate, thought-provoking explorations of faith and humanity. Jowett's legacy endures in his contributions to Christian literature and the influence he exerted on both sides of the Atlantic, as a pastor both in England and later at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City.
