I believe that children should be empowered to own their identity as soon as they are aware and can relate to their name. Often, we find children in today's society allowing others to control how they will be identified. In speaking with teenagers (athletes) who while in elementary and middle schools, if they had a nickname, it was given to them by someone other than their family and instead of correcting it they accepted it only to realize later in life that they hated not being called by their actual full name. I hope that this book gives them the courage to start standing up for themselves through self-identification in the earliest stages of life.
