The concept of "neighborhood", which was declared obsolete some time ago, is more present again – among the population, in the urban landscape, in social policy and in science. However, both in theory and practice, it has changed continuously over time depending on developments in society as a whole. The phenomenon, which is becoming more and more complex, was empirically investigated using a selected example, the Tübingen Alter Güterbahnhof Quartier. In the process, a wide variety of aspects of today's ideas of neighbourhood and lived neighbourhood came to light.

Autorenporträt
Linda Baum studied geography (B.Sc.) at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and the Universidad de Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico. She also completed her master's degree in Human Geography - Global Studies (M.A.) at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen. During her studies, her main interests were on socio-geographical topics. Since questions that can be observed in the immediate vicinity always motivated her the most, she wrote her master's thesis on the neighborhood conditions in the Old Freight Station Quarter in Tübingen. After working for three years as a research assistant at the Chair of Urban and Regional Development of the Institute of Geography at the University of Tübingen with Prof. Dr. Dr. Olaf Kühne, she has now arrived in practice and works in the field of landscape planning.
