ABOUT NICOLAUS COPERNICUS
Nicolaus Copernicus, the pioneering astronomer whose heliocentric model transformed our understanding of the universe, was born on February 19, 1473, in the city of Torun, in the Kingdom of Poland, which was part of the Kingdom of Poland. His father, also named Nicolaus, was a successful merchant, and his mother, Barbara Watzenrode, came from a respected family in Torun. Copernicus was the youngest of four children and was raised in a household that valued education and culture.
