The history of FIMS is a story of people, professionals and scholars actively devoted both as individuals and community, to the advancement of medical sports science, education of sports physicians, and the care of the athlete. These are the three main pillars of the Federation since its establishment in 1928. FIMS was born in response to the need for a more specialized sports medicine seen, since the beginning of the XX century, as a primary scholarly and professional domain within medical science. The growing importance covered by physical activity and sport in the history of Western culture as a means to increase the quality of life and maintain the health of society and the individuals within it has made the humus, the fertile layer to the growth and outstanding development of our Federation in the XX century.
