THE PURE TRUTH
DON'T ASK FOR SUGAR is a spiritual and humorous love, crime and spy novel, that only real life can write. Learn from the dearly paid missteps of a European globetrotter in the Australian desert and from his fantastic trips to Asia, until you regain your consciousness in an East German prison cell, - after a stopover in Moscow.
But what actually happened last in book 1? It's late November 1985, like a giant frying pan, Western Australia's sun broils over the megacity of Perth, where Suzanne models for art students while Christoph, who has no work permit and adores Suzanne, lays glowing hot bricks in the blazing sun. As soon as the two of them are among themselves, their hormones also boil until, after months of quarrelling with their jealous main tenant Janet, their patience snaps. Their new landlady Kelly - big heart, small garden, eight emaciated chickens and a shaggy Austrian who grows marijuana in the outback as a lodger - feeds them home-baked biscuits.
One day, Suzanne learns from a friend that a fortune teller with extraordinary psychic abilities is appearing in Fremantle's small chapel, and that anyone interested in spirituality is cordially invited to attend. The time has come, the two of them are sitting at the back of the small chapel and now it's their turn.
"I welcome two new guests to our midst today," says the seer, holding Suzanne's hand. "I see your future clearly," she says so loudly that it echoes throughout the chapel. "Great changes are in store for you. Soon you will live happily far to the south and pursue an ancient labour there."
The seer knew more than either of them, but when she grabs Christoph's hands, her whole arm begins to tremble.
"Oh my God!" she exclaims in horror, "I see dark powers and sinister demons!" A murmur goes through the rows. "In a faraway place you will be put to a hard test," she continues, "only God can save your soul, be vigilant and pray!"
Everyone turns their heads and although Christoph is determined not to believe in such hoaxes, he suddenly feels like a bad person. Has Christoph been possessed by evil spirits? Cold sweat runs down his forehead.
"Chris, you're worrying me!"
"Don't worry, Suzanne, I don't hear any evil voices yet." The event over in no time at all, the two drive to the marketplace with mixed feelings and load the fruit and vegetables they have already sorted out into the boot.
