The book provides mechanistic insights on the role of obesity in cardiovascular and respiratory disorders, and examines the role of the complementary molecular mechanism of the gut microbiota in the development of obesity. It also reviews the interaction between the metabolic system and immune cells in the pathogenesis of obesity-associated diseases. Lastly, it assesses the latest advances in nanomedicine as an emerging strategy for the treatment of obesity.

Autorenporträt
Dr. Asita Elengoe is Head of the Department of Biotechnology at the Faculty of Science, Lincoln University College, Malaysia. She obtained her Ph.D. in Bioscience and Master of Science in Biotechnology (2010) from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Her research is focused on cancer, gene therapy, computational biology, natural products and medicinal plants. She is a member of the Royal Society of Biology (MRSB) the United Kingdom, an editor for the SCIREA Journal of Biology, and an assistant executive editor for the International Journal of Advancement in Life Sciences Research. She received the ‘Young Researcher in Biotechnology’ Award at the International Healthcare Awards 2018, Chennai, India.

Dr. Methil Kannan Kutty is currently a Professor of Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine, Lincoln University College, Malaysia. Previously, he has served at the Universiti Islam Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, UITM, International Medical University, Royal College of Medicine and King Faisal University, Dammam, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He served as a visiting Professor at Madras Medical College for five years. He has more than 160 publications in peer-reviewed journals to his credit and has authored seven books.
