This book is a humorous and self-deprecating account of how the author and his wife and stepson spent weeks wandering around Thailand and Cambodia in South-East Asia, forsaking luxuries such as taxis, 5-star hotels and air-conditioned restaurants. They rode trains, buses, bicycles, boats, scooters, tuk-tuks and elephants, braved severe heat, monsoon rain and con artists, and ate street food while baffling the people they met with persistently atrocious attempts to talk the local lingo. Along the way they managed to see some of the most memorable places on earth, such as the Death Railway and the River Kwai in Thailand, and Angkor Wat and the notorious Khmer Rouge Genocide Museum in Cambodia.
