A hallmark of historic antisemitism is the bigot's firm belief that a small group of Jews secretly control government and the economy for their personal benefit. On Top of Mount Zion takes the prevailing opinion of most Americans that American Jews control our Mideast foreign policy to favor the interests of Israel over our own as an incipient sign of future antisemitism. When the Israeli bombing of Iran drags the U.S. into another losing war that suppressed belief becomes manifest in the election campaign of a New York Jewish senator. While fighting that battle the senator learns that his visiting Israeli nephew has been charged with the ritual killing of a Christian child. But what is most shocking is that this play is a comedy.
