On May 25 2022, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the publication of Comrade Mao Zedong's Talks at the Yan'an Forum on Literature and Art the Chinese National Academy of Arts released a list of 100 Literary and Art Works produced from 1943 to 2021 under the theme "Art for the People". In this book we describe each of the 100 iconic art and literary works on the list. Among them, there are not only the classic works of more than half a century ago, as well as more recent masterpieces. All these works embody advanced artistic concepts, condensed national cultural memory, and show off China's progressive art over time. The true value of worthwhile art and literature lies in its ability to lift the spirit, raise consciousness and engage intellectually. Each of the artistic creations selected by the members of the Chinese Academy of Art and described in this book do this and are icons of the revolution that has transformed a nation and excel, each in its own way, by inspiring a whole population, and lifting the spirits of an oppressed people to throw off the yoke of feudalism, poverty and illiteracy. Each one has educated the people to grasp the opportunity to build a nation based on equity and democratic socialist values for all people, embracing differences while encouraging harmony, emphasising the natural selflessness and virtues of the people of China and creating an environment to propel China forward, not only as a great economic power to bring opportunity and prosperity to all of its people but as a leader in the international community based on the highest ethical and aesthetic ideals.
