Since then, he has been associated with the S. I. Vavilov State Optical Institute in St. Petersburg. He earned his "Kandidat" degree in 1966 in Chemistry and his Doctor of Science degree in 1991 in Physics and Mathematics from the Vavilov State Optical Institute. Dr. Efimov has extensive experience in various fields of glass science. During the last sixteen years he has developed quantitative models and approaches to understanding the optical and spectroscopic properties of inorganic glasses as related to their structure. Dr. Efimov has more than one hundred publications in scientific journals and conference proceedings. He has been a member of the program committees of many all-union conferences and of the Fifteenth International Congress on Glass. Since1985, he has also served as a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Fizika i Khimiya Stekla (Glass Physics and Chemistry). Recently, Dr. Efimov was appointed a professor at St. Petersburg's Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics.
