V. RAMAMURTHY is the Bernard-Bans Professor of Chemistry at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana. The coauthor of over 200 research publications, he is a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and a member of the American Chemical Society and the Inter-American Photochemical Society, among others. Following his undergraduate education in India, Dr. Ramamurthy trained in photochemistry under the stewardships of R. S. H. Liu, P. de Mayo, and N. J. Turro. He received the Ph.D. degree (1974) from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu. KIRK S. SCHANZE is an Associate Professor in chemistry at the University of Florida, Gainesville. The coauthor of over 60 journal publications, he is a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Society for Photobiology, among others. Dr. Schanze received the B.S. degree (1979) in chemistry from Florida State University, Tallahassee, and the Ph.D. degree (1983) in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
