Ekaterina Manoilo's debut novel, which, long before the book was published, attracted close attention of literary observers and critics, and also received the Alexander Pushkin Lyceum Prize. The heroine of the novel, Katya, the daughter of a Russian and a Kazakh, lives in a small border town, and these two cultures had an equal influence on the formation of her personality: contradictory, complex, bright. She leaves for Moscow from a deep personal tragedy, but it is impossible to escape from her native places forever: they attract, force her to return at least for a short while and try to break her. This is a novel about violence and freedom, happiness and dependence, death and life triumphing over it. The book is about the rebellion of children against their fathers, in which, most often, true love lies.
