Bob Harris found himself trapped inside his modest home, the raging floodwaters rapidly rising with no chance of escape. His only companion in this dire situation was his beloved cat, Midnight, whose piercing golden eyes seemed to reflect the fear and uncertainty they both felt.

Bob clutched Midnight close to his chest, feeling her small body tremble against his own. The water continued to inch higher, creeping up his legs and soaking through his clothes. With a heavy heart, Bob knew that their chances of survival were dwindling with each passing moment.

But Bob was not one to give up easily. As he looked into Midnight's eyes, a sense of determination flickered within him. He had to find a way out, not just for himself, but for his faithful feline companion who had stood by him through thick and thin.

With a deep breath, Bob carefully made his way to the window, hoping for a glimpse of salvation amidst the chaos outside. The rain had subsided, leaving behind a surreal scene of destruction - uprooted trees, collapsed buildings, and debris strewn everywhere.

In the distance, Bob spotted a faint glimmer of hope. A rescue boat was making its way through the flooded streets, its light cutting through the darkness like a beacon of salvation. Bob's heart leaped with newfound hope as he frantically waved his arms, trying to catch the attention of the rescue team.

I was born in England, but have lived in Southern California for many years. I m now retired and live in the Pacific NW in a little seaside city amongst the giant redwoods and wonderful harbor, almost at the Oregon border. My husband and I have one cat, called Midnight and she is featured in two of my latest Sci-Fi short stories. I love Science Fiction, animals, and trying to help others. I publish under Doreen Milstead as well as my own name. My photo was taken right before the coronation of QE II in the UK.
