Although the poem is dedicated to the spiritual and physical search for Saint Grail, its central narrative is love, chivalry, and courtship that reward the hero with a happy completion of his deeds.

Wolfram von Eschenbach (c. 1170 – c. 1220) was a German poet, Minnesinger (troubadour), and a knight, famous as one of the greatest epic poets of his time. His origin is unknown, although based on the language and text analysis of his works, the poet might have come from the area of Ansbach in Bavaria. As a troubadour, he also wrote lyric poetry.
